Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon, is an island country in South Asia. It is also called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka's geographic location and deep harbors have made it of great strategic importance, from the earliest days of the ancient Silk Road to today's maritime Silk Road. Sri Lanka is one of the oldest traditionally Buddhist countries. The island has been a center of Buddhist scholarship and practices since the introduction of Buddhism in the 3rd century BCE.

Colombo

Colombo was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815, and its status as capital was retained when the nation became independent in 1948. Today, Colombo is is the financial center of the island and a famous tourist destination with a mixture of modern life, colonial buildings and monuments.

University of Colombo

The University of Colombo, founded in 1921 as an affiliated college to the University of London, is Sri Lanka’s oldest Higher Education Institution. It is the best university in Sri Lanka and ranked among the top 10 universities in South Asia.
